Claire & Nikos — “The Message I Almost Didn’t Open”

I remember the exact moment. It was late November, raining outside, and I was half-asleep on the sofa scrolling through my matches with no real intention of doing anything about any of them. Nikos had sent a message two days earlier and I’d left it sitting there, unread.

I almost deleted it.

Instead, I opened it. He’d written two paragraphs about the book on my profile — a Greek novel, which he found amusing and a little touching. His English was warm and precise. We exchanged messages for six weeks before we ever called. He was generous with his words and careful with his questions.

He flew to Edinburgh in March. We walked along the water for hours in the cold and talked about everything except the fact that we were, quietly and completely, falling in love.

We married the following autumn. In Athens. In the rain.

Marta & Stavros — “I Was Skeptical. I Was Wrong.”

I’ll keep this short because I’m not a person who writes things like this. I made a profile mostly to prove to my sister that nothing would come of it. Stavros matched with me on day two. I assumed he’d be like the rest — one week of enthusiasm, then silence.

He wasn’t. Seven months of calls, visits, and an absurd amount of shared playlists later, we moved in together in Warsaw. He makes coffee every morning without being asked. That’s how I knew.

Lena & Dimitris — “My Completely Unplanned Greek Love Story”

Okay so here’s what happened. I was visiting this site basically as research — I work in content and was curious about the format. I made a profile as a test. I was not looking for anything.

Then Dimitris showed up in my matches and his profile was so genuinely charming that I figured one message wouldn’t hurt. Famous last words, obviously.

He’s from Thessaloniki. He explained this to me with a level of civic pride that I found both ridiculous and completely endearing. We talked every night for two months. He taught me approximately four words in Greek, all of which turned out to be food.

I visited him in the summer. His mother fed me for five days straight. I came back home three kilos heavier and extremely in love.

We’re getting married next June. I have learned several more food words since then.

Yuna & Alexandros — “Quietly, Everything Changed”

I wasn’t unhappy before. I simply hadn’t understood what was missing.

Alexandros wrote to me without fanfare, asked real questions, and listened to the answers. That was enough to make him unusual. We talked across time zones for months — careful, unhurried conversations that slowly became the best part of my days.

I flew to Crete in the spring. The light there is different from anywhere I’ve been. So was he.

We live together now. I still haven’t quite found the words for it, which is why this is short.

Rachel & Kostas — “A Decision I Actually Researched (And It Still Surprised Me)”

I approach most things methodically, and dating was no different. I’d read that Greek men tend to be family-focused and emotionally direct, and I wanted exactly that after years of ambiguity with partners who couldn’t communicate. So I made a profile here with clear intentions.

Kostas was my third match. His profile was honest, his first message was specific rather than generic, and he answered my (admittedly quite probing) early questions without flinching.

What I hadn’t planned for was the humor. He is genuinely, consistently funny — which isn’t something you can research in advance.

We dated long-distance for nine months between London and Athens before I relocated. That was fourteen months ago. The decision holds up under review.

Brigitte & Petros — “I Told Everyone I’d Never Do Online Dating. Then I Did This.”

I was the person at every dinner party who said online dating wasn’t for her! I said it confidently and often! And then my friend showed me this site on a Tuesday and I made a profile as a joke and Petros messaged me on Thursday and now we are engaged and I have had to apologize to literally everyone I know!

He is from a small town near Nafplio and he is the kindest, loudest, most enthusiastic person I have ever met. He called his entire family on video to introduce me the third time we spoke. It was overwhelming and perfect.

The wedding is in Greece. I am learning to say my vows in Greek. I am absolutely going to cry.
